Join the Declaration of Independence Banner Brigade for the GW Birthday Parade

This a local Indivisible event!

The award-winning Declaration of Independence Banner Brigade will be walking in the George Washington’s Birthday parade in Old Town Alexandria, and we’d welcome both new and experienced people to join us this time!

For those new to the idea, the Declaration Banner Brigade is a group of volunteers/friends/neighbors, each of whom carry a homemade banner bearing a line from the Declaration of Independence. (We provide the banners.) It’s a great way to remind/inform people of what the Declaration (the original ‘No Kings’ document!) actually says, and we always get lots of cheers. This year’s parade theme is “Virginia’s Son ~ America’s Founding Father” and parade organizers are interested in groups that celebrate American Independence, so we expect an enthusiastic reception.

If you’d like to join in, please register here by 6 pm on Friday 2/13. You’ll need to be able to meet us at the line-up location (near Royal & Gibbon Sts) by 12:45 pm Sat., and be able to carry your banner the length of the parade (around 1.2 miles). And be prepared for cheers and waves!! Families are welcome, including children (provided that they can keep pace while walking).

*A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
