What we do..
We gather stories from people from all backgrounds about how they’re currently experiencing life in America. Examples include the cost of living, to getting an education, to the economy and jobs, to the environment, food protection. See our “beta” YouTube channel: www.YouTube.com/@votingforourlives
Why we do this ..
The best messaging tool is human expression, a good video with a call to action helps others relate and take action. A good video also fights propaganda. NOTE: We do NOT rant about political figures or engage in political rhetoric.
Where we find stories ..
We talk to our circle of friends, relatives, and acquaintances and have conversations. We find someone willing to tell and share their story. Often it just happens spontaneously, so we can have our cameras ready or get permission to contact folks.
We can also find existing videos online, and send the links to our team. We may use part of the video, adapting/transforming its message and always giving proper credit to its creator.
Tips for your own video-making…
If you are interested in making video stories (which is not obligatory to be part of the project), we approach with curiosity, active listening and show interest in learning more. We may tell our own story, or show our own vulnerability to storytellers might do the same and speak from their heart. This helps us all connect. This type of conversation takes practice, and we hold practice trainings.
How you can contribute .. (no experience necessary!)
– Find stories in your network, circle of friends, clips online;
– Learn how to record stories you find (30 sec shorts);
– Text, email and call volunteers and contributors, and/or
– Share our video stories to your social media network, legislators, etc.
