Local Indivisible groups build and wield power in ways that individuals can’t. To create change, you need the collective constituent power that comes with working together, as Indivisibles.

Indivisibles organize -- which means building power and flexing at key moments. Indivisible Groups take action in their communities, build collective purpose, and create change.

We make calls. We show up. We organize. And we’ve built lasting collective power across the country, in our home towns. We’re Indivisible.

We’re a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.

Demand Your Representative Cosponsor the Preventing Authoritarian Policing Tactics on America’s Streets Act

The news out of Portland is dystopian. Federal forces have been seen escalating situations against protestors standing against police brutality -- an eerie parallel to the authoritarian tactics employed in DC a few weeks ago. Enabled by President Trump, these unidentified federal law enforcement are detaining protestors and throwing them into unmarked vans. Despite the public outcry, President Trump is threatening to continue the crackdown in other cities, including Chicago.

While the situation is horrifying, it is unfortunately enabled by long-standing federal policy. US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) --  one of the federal law enforcement agencies acting in Portland -- has the power to racially profile and stop and frisk anyone without warrant or reasonable suspicion. CBP’s jurisdiction extends along the 100-mile border zone (which includes both Chicago and Portland), but their racist tactics are most often employed along the Southern border against Latinx individuals. The crackdown against DC and Portland protestors may have been the event to draw the nation’s attention, but it’s imperative that we understand this as a systemic issue that stems from an outsized role of police and law enforcement in our society.

Senators Merkley and Wyden introduced the Preventing Authoritarian Policing Tactics on America’s Streets Act to block the Trump administration from deploying federal forces against demonstrators. This legislation would:

  • Require individual and agency identification on uniforms of officers and prevent unmarked vehicles from being used in arrests.

  •  Limit federal agents’ crowd control activities to federal property and its immediate vicinity, unless their presence is specifically requested by both the mayor and governor.

  • Require disclosure on an agency website within 24 hours of deployments specifying the number of personnel and purposes of deployment.

  • Make arrests in violation of these rules unlawful.

Demand Your Representative Curb Trump’s Authoritarian Actions

Hello, I’m a constituent from [part of state] and I’m very concerned about the authoritarian tactics being used by federal agents in Portland and across the country.

Trump is allowing unidentified federal law enforcement to detain protestors exercising their First Amendment rights and is threatening to expand this policy to Chicago and other major cities. This is unconscionable and undemocratic.

Will [Rep] cosponsor the Preventing Authoritarian Policing Tactics on America’s Streets Act to protect our civil rights and curb Trump’s authoritarian actions? I will be closely watching for [Representative]’s actions on this and following up.

THANK YOU! Created with Sketch. THANK YOU!
