Demand Your Representative Pass a Real Recovery
President Joe Biden has put out part one of his Build Back Better Plan for recovery: the American Jobs Plan. He is expected to put out part two, the American Families Plan soon. Biden’s proposal covers many sectors of the economy, which is good, but it leaves some out and doesn’t do enough to provide recovery in others. Overall, it is not a bold enough investment to create a real and lasting recovery.
Much like they did for the relief fight, the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) has gone through a thoughtful process to determine their policy priorities for what needs to be added to or improved in the President’s plan to win a robust recovery. Progressives have the ability to commit their votes together as a voting bloc and use that leverage in legislative negotiations to secure progressive wins and prevent harmful compromises.
This is the same strategy we supported during the fight for the American Rescue Plan which resulted in some huge wins. We must put pressure on MOCs to support these key priorities.

- Investments in Climate (Included, but doesn’t go far enough)

In addition to supporting the CPC priorities, Indivisible, along with members of the Green New Deal Network, have created the THRIVE Agenda for recovery. THRIVE demands that the recovery fight be grounded in climate, jobs, and justice. THRIVE accomplishes these by making THRIVE-sized investments in the economy, going big on scope, and including strong cross cutting climate, equity, and labor standards.
THRIVE, in addition to the five key priorities listed above, will be what we fight for in the recovery package that moves through Congress.

Tell Your Representative to Pass a Real Recovery
Hello, I’m a constituent from [part of state] and I’m very concerned about the exclusion of key priorities in Biden’s American Jobs Plan and the overall size of recovery. It’s a great start, but we need Congress to deliver for constituents like me by making it bigger and more comprehensive.
Biden’s recovery proposal completely leaves out a path to citizenship for DACA recipients, TPS holders, and essential workers, drug pricing reform, and expanding Medicare eligibility. These critical policies must be included in any recovery.
Congress must also strengthen investments in climate, the care economy, and housing as outlined by the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
Finally, the size of the recovery must be $1 trillion a year for the next ten years in order to produce the 15 million jobs needed to end the unemployment crisis. These investments should be tied to the strong labor, equity and climate standards found in the THRIVE Agenda.
Will [Representative] support these policy priorities and the scale and standards of the THRIVE Agenda in the recovery package? I will be closely watching for [Representative]’s actions on this and following up.
