Demand Your Senators Invest in Affordable Housing in Recovery Legislation

President Biden has put out his vision for recovery—the American Jobs and Families Plan— and it’s a good first step, but we need to go farther to create more truly affordable housing, expand public housing, and protect low-income renters.

Indivisible is supporting three critical affordable housing priorities for recovery:

  1. Guaranteeing Housing Choice Vouchers to all eligible Americans to ensure low-income renters receive the financial support they are entitled to.
  2. Investments to repair existing public housing, including weatherization and energy efficiency upgrades, and eliminating the Faircloth Amendment which currently prohibits the expansion of new public housing.
  3. Big investments in the National Housing Trust Fund to maintain low-income rental housing, including permanent supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness, and an Affordable Housing Acquisition fund to prevent the loss of rental units during an economic downturn.

We're fighting for affordable housing investments to build a stronger economy, but that’s not the only priority we have for economic recovery.

Much like we saw in the fight for the American Rescue Plan the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) has gone through a thoughtful process to determine their priorities to win a robust recovery. Including affordable housing, Indivisible is supporting 6 critical priorities:

  1. Pathway to Citizenship
  2. Dramatically Lower Drug Prices & Use Savings to Pay for Public Health Expansion
  3. Investments in Climate
  4. Investments in the Care Economy
  5. Investments in Housing
  6. Increasing the overall size of Recovery

Tell Your Senators to Invest in Affordable Housing in Recovery

Hello, I’m a constituent from [state] and I believe any recovery package must invest in Affordable Housing. Will [Senators]:

  • Sign Senator Merkley’s letter on affordable housing investments and rental assistance;
  • Cosponsor S. 1218 The Green New Deal for Public Housing; and
  • Fight to eliminate the Faircloth amendment so we can build new public housing.

Additionally, increasing the overall size of recovery by including a pathway to citizenship, expanding medicare, lowering drug prices, and making historic investments in our care economy, green jobs, and combating climate change are critical priorities for recovery.

Will [Senators] support these policy priorities?
