Demand Your Senators Invest in the Care Economy in Recovery Legislation

President Biden has put out his vision for recovery—the American Jobs and Families Plan— and it’s a good first step, but we need to go farther to build a true care economy, invest in caregiving jobs, and help every family thrive.

Indivisible is supporting three critical care economy priorities for recovery:

  1. Universal Child Care, without harmful barriers to access like means testing or work requirements, and a $400 billion investment in child care infrastructure.
  2. Universal Paid Family and Medical Leave through a federal program that covers all workers, with at least 12 weeks of leave.
  3. $450 billion invested in Home and Community-Based Services to make those caregiving services affordable and create good jobs, paying at least $15 an hour with the right to join a union.

We’re fighting for care economy investments to build a stronger economy, but that’s not the only priority we have for economic recovery.

Much like we saw in the fight for the American Rescue Plan the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) has gone through a thoughtful process to determine their priorities to win a robust recovery. In addition to the care economy, Indivisible is supporting 6 critical priorities:

  1. Pathway to Citizenship
  2. Dramatically Lower Drug Prices & Use Savings to Pay for Public Health Expansion
  3. Investments in Climate
  4. Investments in the Care Economy
  5. Investments in Housing
  6. Increasing the overall size of Recovery

Tell Your Senators to Invest in the Care Economy in Recovery Legislation

Hello, I’m a constituent from [state] and I believe any recovery package must invest in the Care Economy. Will [Senators]:

  • Cosponsor S.1398 the Universal Child Care and Early Learning Act
  • Support a federal Universal Paid Leave program
  • Fight for $450 billion for Home and Community-Based Services

Additionally, increasing the overall size of recovery by including a pathway to citizenship, lowering drug prices, and making historic investments in affordable housing, green jobs, and combating climate change are critical priorities for recovery.

Will [Senators] support these policy priorities?
