The fight to protect voting rights never ends, and right now, we’re witnessing a Jim-Crow-era effort from politicians and their billionaire friends to restrict our freedoms, silence our voices, and consolidate power. Congressman John Lewis was a tireless fighter against injustice and for equal voting rights for all.
Join us in honoring his legacy by coming together for a candlelight vigil at the Historic Courthouse Circle in downtown Pittsboro on Sunday July 19, from 8:00 – 9:00. The Chatham Singing Resistance will be inspiring and leading us in song. They will hold a teach-in to practice their songs at the Community Engagement Center (Democratic Headquarters) in the Food Lion Shopping center at 6:30 that evening. All are welcome to come!
It is less than 100 days until voting for the midterms begin. It is time to dedicate ourselves to continue his legacy. Let’s come together and commit to speaking out against the threats to our voting rights and educating others about the importance of voting. Let’s resolve to work to get out the vote in the fall. There is much to be done to ensure that our election results cannot be disputed.
Bring a light (candles, flashlights, or phone), signs relating to voting and election protection, and your own water.
Parking is available at the Justice Center and other side lots and streets around town.
