Local Indivisible groups build and wield power in ways that individuals can’t. To create change, you need the collective constituent power that comes with working together, as Indivisibles.

Indivisibles organize -- which means building power and flexing at key moments. Indivisible Groups take action in their communities, build collective purpose, and create change.

We make calls. We show up. We organize. And we’ve built lasting collective power across the country, in our home towns. We’re Indivisible.

We’re a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.

Indivisible Postcard Program Overview

Indivisible Postcard Program

Indivisible is launching a postcard program! Postcards are a popular and effective way to reach out to voters around elections. They are a great tactic for new volunteers to get involved and are easily scalable. You can write five postcards with your coffee in the morning, or write two hundred with your Indivisible group during a debate watch party!

Need addresses? Fill out this form to let us know that you are interested! All we need to know is who you want to write to, why you are targeting those specific geographies, and how many addresses you need. The form also includes the program’s guidelines- specifically using the script provided by Indivisible HQ, as well as an agreement not to share the names and addresses with candidates.

The script language is designed to be non-partisan, meaning that it focuses on encouraging folks to vote. We are using this script for two reasons - it simplifies the compliance requirements for the program and aligns with best practices and current research. Research from the Analyst Institute shows that non-partisan Get Out The Vote (GOTV) messaging is the most effective for postcards.

Once the form is completed and the application checked by regional organizers, Indivisible staff will create an Open Virtual Phone Bank (OpenVPB) and send you a link. You will be able to distribute this link to your group and other folks taking part in your postcard program.

When you or your group members click on the link, you will be asked to either create an ActionID account or log in to a previously-created account. Once you log in to the OpenVPB, you will see a script and a check-box that indicates whether a postcard has been written to the voter. Please use the script exactly and check the box before moving on to the next voter. More information on how to use OpenVPBs can be found here

Indivisible Postcards Script

Dear ______

There is an election coming up on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020. This election will change the course of our nation in huge ways. I am planning on voting because

Will you join me in being a voter?

I’m not asking you to support one candidate over another, but rather to vote so that we can keep all our representatives accountable to the people who put them in office.

Thank you!

Indivisible Postcards FAQ

Q: What will be the turnaround time between submitting the form and receiving the OpenVPB link?

A: Great question! We understand the urgency of the moment and we are looking to fulfill requests within 4 working days of receipt.

Q: Can we get scripts for specific candidates or adjust the script to mention a candidate?

A: Unfortunately, we can’t provide scripts that mention candidates. Doing so may trigger campaign finance reporting, which may slow down the process of getting these names to you. It is super important that we use the scripts as written, of course with some customization and inclusion of personal stories, and not mention candidates.

Q: Is Indivisible providing postcards to groups or money to purchase postcards?

A: There are several ways that we can provide resources for Indivisible groups to purchase postcards!. First, we highly recommend participation in the Distributed Fundraising program, which provides a way for groups to raise funds. Additionally, groups may apply for a GROW grant and include postcards in the grant application!

Q: Will the postcard program continue after the 2020 general election?

A: Yes, we will provide postcards for future GOTV efforts past the 2020 election cycle. Since this process is simple, we hope that groups will use it for GOTV in all future elections!

Q: Could we request targeting using political districts other than ZIP codes?

A: Unfortunately, no. Using ZIP codes instead of political districts helps keep the complexity around compliance low. Also, ZIP codes provide more flexibility to give you the largest amount of names for GOTV.

Q: Could we write postcards in other areas or states than where our group operates?

A: Absolutely. One thing to note - there will be a different OpenVPB link for each state where you are writing postcards because of the way MyVoters is set up.
