Local Indivisible groups build and wield power in ways that individuals can’t. To create change, you need the collective constituent power that comes with working together, as Indivisibles.

Indivisibles organize -- which means building power and flexing at key moments. Indivisible Groups take action in their communities, build collective purpose, and create change.

We make calls. We show up. We organize. And we’ve built lasting collective power across the country, in our home towns. We’re Indivisible.

We’re a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.

Indivisible Year 5

For four years we’ve been resisting the Trump agenda. We know that Trump is the symptom of a deeper problem within our democracy. A healthy democracy would have rejected Trump like a healthy body rejects a virus. That’s why our advocacy has always been about more than a single person.

It’s time to take back the White House and the Senate. Our democracy cannot survive another four years of Trump and McConnell. Each and every text, letter or call to a voter is building for that moment when we defeat Trump and his enablers.

But we can’t stop there. It’s not enough to beat Trump. We have to tear down the structures that allowed him to rise. Otherwise, we’ll see an even more grotesque and destructive version of Trumpism in the future.

Our long term vision is a real democracy—of, by and for the people. We have to build a democracy that reflects a broad, multiracial “we the people.” One that works for all of us and is sustained by all of us. For four years you kept the pressure on elected officials and you built a powerful blue wave up and down the ballot. We’re turning those same tools towards defeating Trump and his allies in November, and demanding the reforms we need to protect our democracy in the post Trump era.

Step 1: Windivisible!

Building a real democracy is impossible unless we defeat Trumpism at the ballot this year. We need to wake up on November 4th knowing we did everything in our power to win back the White House, flip the Senate and keep the House. This election season, Indivisibles will be reaching out to 20 million voters in key states. While we won’t be canvassing this year, we aren’t trading safety for efficacy. Every night from now until Election Day, Indivisibles across the country are texting, calling, and writing letters to the exact voters we need to win.

Step 1A: Save SCOTUS!

While we fight to save our democracy and save SCOTUS at the ballot box, we’ll also take the fight to the Senate. There’s a lot we can do to fight back before the election, but we’ll keep fighting for the courts even after. We’ll give it our absolute all to block Republicans from confirming Trump’s conservative extremist to the bench. Learn more at our Save SCOTUS website

Step 1B: Protect the Results!

If Trump refuses to accept the results of the election, we have a plan for that too: Protect the Results. We’re building a coalition that will be ready to mobilize to protect the results of the election if Trump does not step down willingly. We don’t want to sugarcoat this, if we end up in a Protect the Results outcome, it’s going to be a knock-down, drag out fight that will require a sustained push.

Step 2: Recommit and Reinvigorate!

We’re in this for the long haul. Make the conscious decision to stay in this fight and make space for some rest and celebration. Even while looking ahead and planning for the next steps, we all need to intentionally add in that space to do whatever recharges us personally and within our Indivisible groups.

Step 3: Fix our Democracy!

We squashed Trump, flipped the Senate, and kept the House. This is our best and only opportunity to build a real democracy. This means big, bold, democracy—reforms, like those contained in H.R. 1, the For the People Act. H.R. 1 would expand voting rights, and overhaul our ethics and campaign finance laws. Prioritizing democracy reform is necessary in a Democratic trifecta because for decades Republicans have been rigging our democracy to entrench their power—that’s one of the reasons Trump was able to rise in the first place. Starting with democracy reform as the first non-relief package will enable us to make progress on all the other issues we care about (health care, climate change, immigration, etc).

One absolutely crucial part of this will be making DC the 51st state. DC Statehood would deliver two additional votes to the Senate, which are needed to pass the rest of the slate of reforms that are essential to save our democracy. DC Statehood is not just a critical democracy issue, it’s a racial justice issue—if admitted, DC would be the only plurality Black state in the union. Equal representation has historically been denied to DC residents because of its demographics. Statehood for DC would give 700,000 DC residents a voice, and right a racist wrong that was baked into the founding of this country.

Step 4: Bold Progressive Vision!

Indivisibles across the country are united in our values—we care about climate change, healthcare, economic justice, immigration. We’re all driven by various issues, but at the end of the day we can’t realize them unless we pass structural democracy reforms. Once we pass key democracy reforms, we open the floodgates to all the progressive policy we’ve been waiting so long to push through. But it won’t be easy! We’ll need to make a concerted effort together to keep pressure on Democrats to push through the most progressive legislation possible. We know Indivisibles will continue to organize at all levels—locally in their communities, at the state level and in coordinated action on the federal level. Many of the tried and true tactics we’ve been using for years will still be in our toolbox like calling our MoCs, showing up at town halls and using our nationally cohesive voice in major coordinated days or weeks of action. Together, we will build the future we want to see.
