Local Indivisible groups build and wield power in ways that individuals can’t. To create change, you need the collective constituent power that comes with working together, as Indivisibles.

Indivisibles organize -- which means building power and flexing at key moments. Indivisible Groups take action in their communities, build collective purpose, and create change.

We make calls. We show up. We organize. And we’ve built lasting collective power across the country, in our home towns. We’re Indivisible.

We’re a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.

Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible announced its endorsement of Marie Newman in the race for Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District.

“In 2018, we saw progressive challengers change the face of the Democratic Party by taking on entrenched incumbents and bringing a new wave of leadership to Congress. In 2020, Marie Newman will continue that fight, and Indivisible is proud to stand with her,” said María Urbina, Indivisible’s National Political Director.

“Marie is taking on the Democratic establishment and a conservative incumbent with an unapologetically progressive message focused on expanding health care, standing with immigrants, and protecting working families. Her campaign is a beacon of political courage and Indivisible is eager to stand with the people of Illinois’ third district to fight for better representation.”

Newman narrowly lost the Democratic primary to incumbent Dan Lipinski in the 2018 midterm elections. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the campaign arm of House Democrats, has signaled its support for Lipinski despite his conservative voting record in Congress while Newman’s strong progressive platform has garnered the support of Indivisible groups across the state.

“Marie is committed to making the economy work for all, guaranteeing health care as a human right--including sexual and reproductive health--protecting and expanding immigrants’ rights, and much more in alignment with our members’ values and the district’s needs,” said Darcey Regan, leader of Indivisible Chicago Alliance, a coalition of Indivisible groups in the 3rd Congressional district. “Marie embodies the mission of the Indivisible movement: to cultivate and elect leaders to realize bold progressive ideals.”

To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, a candidate must clear a tough three-stage process that requires broad support from local Indivisible group members at multiple points. All endorsed candidates must have a strong progressive platform aligned with our movement’s values and the enthusiastic support of informed energized voters in their district.
