Indivisible Endorses Progressive Candidates in Three Contested Primaries

Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible announced its endorsement of three additional candidates for Congress. The announcement is the latest for the progressive grassroots organization, which endorses throughout each election cycle. The candidates are as follows:

Marie Newman (IL-06)
Mandela Barnes (WI-Sen)
Jamie McLeod-Skinner (OR-05)

“Indivisible is proud to endorse these three candidates as we build progressive power in Congress. These are grassroots champions who are committed to bringing the fight for progressive change to the halls of Congress,” said Indivisible’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director Leah Greenberg. “Despite obstructionist attempts to undermine the Biden agenda in 2021, progressives in Congress stood their ground to move forward policies that improve the lives of ordinary Americans. The year ahead will be all about delivering on the Biden agenda, ensuring an inclusive recovery for working people, and reforming and repairing our democracy. These candidates are ready to do the hard work to make sure our democracy and economy work for all of us.”

The endorsement from one of the leading national progressive organizations will be a boost for the candidates, all of whom are facing competitive primary contests. Mandela Barnes, a strong supporter of eliminating the filibuster, is vying to take on election denier Sen. Ron Johnson, while Jamie McLeod-Skinner is challenging conservative Democratic Rep. Kurt Schrader, who notably killed prescription drug pricing reform. Marie Newman, a longtime Indivisible champion, is earning Indivisible’s endorsement for the third cycle in a row as she runs for re-election in suburban Chicago.

To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, a candidate must clear a tough three-stage process that requires broad support from local Indivisible group members at multiple points. All endorsed candidates must have a strong progressive platform aligned with our movement’s values and the enthusiastic support of informed energized voters in their district.
