Tampa, FL—Today, the Indivisible Project announced its endorsement of Andrew Gillum in the Florida gubernatorial race.

“I’m so proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Indivisible as we fight to take back Florida. More than ever we need everyday people to vote, make their voices heard and make the change that we so badly need in the Sunshine State. Indivisible is leading that fight, and I’m proud to have their support,” said Andrew Gillum.

“Today, we are thrilled to endorse Mayor Andrew Gillum for Governor of Florida. With our national endorsement, we are committed to throwing the weight of our movement behind Mayor Gillum,” said Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of the Indivisible Project. “We will support our groups to engage in direct voter contact across the state, providing them with access to tools and data to engage in distributed canvassing, phone banking and texting. Last week, Indivisible groups in every part of the state voted to endorse the Mayor. This week, we start doing the work to get him elected.”

“Andrew Gillum has been fighting for the issues that matter since he was first elected to public office at age 23. He beat the NRA in court, championed marriage equality and established a Ban the Box policy to help people with prior convictions find employment. Now, he hopes to extend his progressive values to all of Florida by becoming the state’s first black governor,” said María Urbina, National Political Director of the Indivisible Project. “As governor, Andrew plans to continue the progressive work he began as mayor of Tallahassee. The son of a bus driver and a construction worker, Andrew is the only non-millionaire in this race. He has a strong progressive platform that would increase teacher pay, raise the minimum wage, and fight back against NRA-backed laws like Stand Your Ground. Andrew’s past record and personal history make him the best candidate to build from the winning Obama coalition – a coalition that includes all Floridians, not just the wealthiest – and win statewide.”

“Andrew Gillum is the most progressive candidate for governor in Florida. His values and votes line up with those of our membership. We are proud to continue working to get out the vote for him through Election Day,” said Christine Hanna of Indivisible Action Tampa Bay.

To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, a candidate must clear a tough three-stage process that requires buy-in from local Indivisible group members at multiple points. A candidate cannot be endorsed without a strong platform and the enthusiastic support of informed, energized voters across their district. Indivisible believes Andrew Gillum has all those things, and more.
