Washington, DC — Today, Leah Greencberg, Co-Executive Director of the Indivisible Project, issued the following statement:

“Abortions are healthcare. Full stop. The fact that in the year 2021, we are still constantly fighting against conservative extremists trying to take over the bodily autonomy of pregnant people is exhausting and infuriating. The Supreme Court has consistently upheld this as a constitutional right, and yet anti-choice politicians in states like Texas and Mississippi have been relentless in their efforts to ban all abortions. We cannot allow them to win.

“We can no longer count on courts packed with right-wing extremists to uphold this fundamental right. It’s past time for Congress to enshrine the judicial precedent set by Roe v. Wade into federal law. The House passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act would protect pregnant people’s reproductive rights from these political attacks by overriding the harmful anti-abortion laws being passed in Republican-dominated states.

“We are in a critical moment in history right now. Democrats are in power and have the urgent mandate to begin to undo the damage done by a 50-year campaign waged by conservative dark money groups. Democrats must use whatever means necessary to ensure the Women’s Health Protection Act is passed into law now. This especially means eliminating the filibuster in the Senate in order to guarantee the right to choose.”
