Washington, D.C. — Today, Ezra Levin, Indivisible’s co-founder and co-executive director, released the following statement on President Trump’s decision to send the National Guard to Chicago:
“Chicago doesn’t need to be ‘saved’ – and certainly not by Kash Patel or the Trump administration. This was never about public safety – crime is down and communities are thriving in these diverse, blue cities. This is a tactic straight out of Trump’s authoritarian playbook: cause chaos, stoke fear, and consolidate power - all while he guts healthcare, crashes the economy, and erodes our democracy.
“This administration is wasting billions of taxpayer dollars targeting thriving blue cities just to stoke fear. He wants to scare us into silence, but we will always choose courage. The same way Texas State House Democrats chose courage. The same way business owners, faith leaders, and community members in Los Angeles and D.C. chose courage. The same way millions of people in the streets on June 14 chose courage – and on October 18 for No Kings, we’re going to choose courage again for the largest peaceful protest in modern American history.
“Our power is in our courage, and history shows that courage wins. The city of Chicago belongs to the people, and we stand with them as they push back against this un-American occupation.”
