Washington, D.C. — Today, Ezra Levin, Indivisible’s co-executive director, released the following statement following Jimmy Fallon’s comments that he plans to “keep his head down” and avoid politics on The Tonight Show:
“Jimmy Fallon says he plans to ‘keep his head down’ and avoid politics on The Tonight Show. Let’s be clear: cowardice isn’t funny. Comedy has always punched up, called out corruption, and held leaders to account. That’s what history remembers.
“Fallon has committed an unforgivable sin in the world of comedy: by aligning himself with the powers that be, he has become deeply uncool. Any self-respecting member of the Hollywood elite should be embarrassed to be seen with him. If you find yourself interviewed by this failure of a host, it’s now your responsibility to call him out. That’s the only thing that will get ratings anyway - nobody’s tuning in for his sad sack monologues.
“For everybody else, there’s one Jimmy in late night worth watching, and it’s not the guy cozying up to the fascists. Fallon can beclown himself all he wants - we’re tuning into Kimmel.”
