Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director Ezra Levin released the following statement on the House’s passage of Trump’s Tax Scam:
“This budget is as cruel as it is corrupt. House Republicans just voted to gut Medicaid, kick millions off SNAP, rip free school lunches from kids, and pour billions into ICE—all so their donors can rake in more tax breaks.
“Trump just made every single Republican more vulnerable–and while they’ll try to spin this disastrous bill, they know exactly how deep the hole they’ve dug is. But when Trump snaps his fingers, they fall in line–no matter how many families they throw under the bus. That spineless loyalty will be their downfall.
“The last time Republicans tried to rip health care away from millions to bankroll handouts for the ultra-rich, they lost the House in 2018. This time, it will be worse for them.
“Come November 2026, voters will feel it when medical bills pile up, when kids go hungry, and when families are pushed deeper into poverty to fund yachts and stock buybacks for bozos like Bezos and Musk.
We’ll make sure everyone knows exactly who’s to blame.”
HOW THE INDIVISIBLE MOVEMENT HAS FOUGHT REPUBLICANS’ RECONCILIATION BILL
- Billboards: Indivisible put up billboards in 5 key Senate target states: Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, Maine, and Iowa. These Senate billboards come in addition to 20 billboards put up by Indivisible in target Republican districts ahead of the House vote.
- Calls & Emails: Indivisibles drove roughly thousands of calls and tens of thousands of emails to Senate Republican offices alone about this reconciliation bill this year.
- Protests: On the heels of No Kings protests, Indivisible groups across the country are continuing to host protests in red districts and states to call out GOP lawmakers—like this one in front of Senator McCormick’s office in Pittsburgh. This is building on actions around the Trump Tax Scam that groups started hosting during April recess.
- Neighbor2Neighbor Canvassing: In 7 Senate target states and 22 House Republican districts, roughly 700 people signed up to go door-to-door and talk to 5 neighbors each about how the cuts to Medicaid and SNAP are going to impact their local community, using Indivisible’s Neighbor2Neighbor neighborhood canvassing tool. Volunteers asked neighbors to take action, including calling their member of Congress and to help further spread the word in their community.
- Phonebanks:
- Patch-Through Phonebank: Indivisible hosted several patch-through phonebanks directed to target Senators offices in the weeks leading up to the votes. In these phonebanks, Indivisibles drive thousands of calls to Republican Senators. In one phonebank, Thom Tillis alone got 560 calls in one hour.
- Healthcare not Warfare: Indivisible hosted a phonebank following Trump’s attack on Iran demanding Senators vote to protect healthcare, not warfare. This phonebank specifically drove calls to Republican senators in Maine, West Virginia, and Missouri.
- Save Medicaid Phonebanks with Partners: The whole week leading up to the vote, Indivisible partnered with MoveOn and Working Families Party for Save Medicaid phonebanks calling into Republican offices.
