Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible’s National Policy Director Angel Padilla released the following statement on the deal tentatively reached in the Senate today on the third COVID-19 response package:
"This deal falls well short of what we need in this moment of crisis. For that reason, the deal has not yet earned our support.”
“Senate Democrats deserve a lot of credit for sticking together to make improvements to the bill. This final package is a dramatic improvement from the original Republican bill, which was a giant no-strings-attached corporate giveaway without any real support to workers and families affected by this crisis. However, we don’t think that the Senate deal does enough for workers and families.”
“We are asking that House Democrats take the bill and make the necessary improvements to it. Any legislative response to the COVID-19 outbreak must safeguard our democracy; support workers and families over corporate profits; and address the underlying inequalities that left us so susceptible to a pandemic in the first place.”
“This is why we fought so hard to retake back the House — to make sure that Democrats had more of a say in the process. We think Democrats in the House should get to work and make this bill better.”
