Local Indivisible groups build and wield power in ways that individuals can’t. To create change, you need the collective constituent power that comes with working together, as Indivisibles.

Indivisibles organize -- which means building power and flexing at key moments. Indivisible Groups take action in their communities, build collective purpose, and create change.

Tell Your Senators to Urge Biden Not to Appoint Corporatists to His Cabinet

Joe Biden is our President-elect, but our work is just getting started. In the Executive Branch, personnel is key to getting any of a President’s agenda enacted. If we want to see significant progressive change, it starts with President-elect Biden appointing progressive leaders to his cabinet and to key administrative positions.

Mitch McConnell is already gearing up to block Biden’s appointees in the Senate, and we’re seeing signs that the Biden Transition Team is rethinking who they’ll consider pushing forward. We are crystal clear that the fate of the Biden Presidency hangs on not making this choice.

Instead, President-elect Biden should use a play from Donald Trump’s playbook and send the people he wants—including progressive nominees we, the people, urge him to send—to the Senate, and if McConnell refuses to confirm them, use other avenues available like the Vacancies Act and recess appointments to build his cabinet.

Our first step is to ensure that President-elect Biden does not nominate or hire corporate executives, high-level consultants, or lobbyists to serve in his administration. This is and should be the floor for holding the Biden administration accountable. After the Trump administration's unfettered abuse in using public service positions to enrich themselves and their corporate cronies, the American people rightfully demand that public officials nominated to the Biden administration are free from corporate interest. To be clear, the deeply rooted issue that is the revolving door was exacerbated by the Trump administration, but sadly has resulted in disastrous and harmful policy outcomes under both Republican and Democratic presidents. This is why we must act boldly and aggressively now to hold our new Democratic administration to the requirement that public service serve the well-being of the public.

We must also push the Biden administration further in response to the people’s demands for diverse, progressive representation. While having an ethnically diverse cabinet is important, diversity alone is not enough to ensure communities all over the country see their President prioritizing their needs over those of large corporations. All Biden personnel must have a demonstrated track record of fighting for the needs of under-resourced communities, communities of color, people who have been disenfranchised, undocumented immigrants, and the many other marginalized groups.

We need you to call your Senators and demand that they urge President-elect Biden to not nominate or hire corporatists to his administration. And if he does, demand that your Senators decline to confirm those nominations.

Will [Senator] support upholding the requirement that public service be about serving the wellbeing of the public and ensure President-elect Biden doesn’t nominate or hire corporatists to his administration? I will be closely watching for [SENATOR NAME]’s actions on this and following up.
