  • Indivisible on the Shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego: ‘No one should have to fear entering a place of worship.’

    May 19, 2026

Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible, released the following statement after the devastating shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego that killed three people:

“We’re heartbroken by the reports of a mass shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. No one should have to fear entering a place of worship. Our hearts are with our Muslim brothers and sisters, and with the entire San Diego community grieving this horrific act of violence.

“This attack was rooted in the same anti-Muslim hate we see perpetuated and normalized by too many elected officials and right-wing media figures who traffic in fear and division. Words have consequences, but unfortunately, there seldom seems to be consequences for Members of Congress and media figures who use hateful and violent rhetoric about Muslim Americans. When so-called leaders demonize Muslim communities, they create the conditions for hatred and violence to flourish.

“We stand united against Islamophobia, political violence, and all forms of hate, and we’re keeping the San Diego community in our hearts as they grieve this horrific act of violence.”
