Donavan McKinney is a lifelong Detroiter and a proven fighter for his community. Through his two terms in the Michigan State House, as an organizer for SEIU advocating for livable wages for healthcare workers, and his lived experience growing up in Detroit, McKinney has seen what working families need firsthand – including new, bold leadership in Congress that will deliver for Detroiters, not special interests.
In the State House, McKinney has delivered on tough funding battles securing more than $10 million in community violence intervention programs for Detroit and other areas. Shaped by his own upbringing amid frequent moves due to evictions and an incarcerated father, Donavan understands the needs of working families firsthand.
In Congress, McKinney is eager to be the voice constituents are hungry for, demanding Medicare for All, comprehensive criminal justice reform, and ICE’s abolition. Donavan was called on to run by various community members, union leaders, and advocacy groups. His service is and continues to be in the singular interest of the people, not special interests or corporate stakeholders.
Indivisible Detroit has endorsed Donavan McKinney because, in the battle against fascism, we need leaders like him. We’re proud to stand with Indivisible Detroit to support Donovan McKinney in his run to be the next Representative for Michigan’s 13th district.
