WASHINGTON, D.C. — In June, Indivisible groups in Michigan formally endorsed Abdul El-Sayed, Will Lawrence, and Donaavan McKinney and recommended them to Indivisible for our national endorsement. Shortly after, Indivisible endorsed Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan U.S. Senate primary race, Will Lawrence in the U.S. House of Representatives primary in Michigan’s 7th congressional district, and Donavan McKinney in the U.S. House of Representatives primary in Michigan’s 13th congressional district because at a moment when our communities are under attack, voters are demanding a Democratic Party willing to fight back. That demand is shaping the future of the party — and it starts in the primaries with candidates like Abdul El-Sayed, Will Lawrence, and Donavan McKinney.
Today, all 3 Indivisible-endorsed candidates won their primary to officially become the Democratic nominee for these key races in Michigan.
Abdul El-Sayed, Will Lawrence, and Donavan McKinney’s successes in the primary are a major victory for working people in Michigan and for voters demanding a new generation of Democratic leadership. All three bring years of experience fighting and winning hard policy battles that have put the people of Michigan first. These candidates have overcome opponents that have accepted campaign contributions from the private equity firms and special interests driving costs up for Michiganders and have built their campaign on support from AIPAC and the Democratic establishment. The voters in Michigan have made clear that it is time for elected officials who represent them.

Indivisible’s 2026 Primary Program
Last November, after Senate Democrats’ surrendered and voted to end the 41-day government shutdown without securing any commitments to lower health care costs or protect working families, Indivisible announced its largest primary program in the movement’s history. This program aims to turn the page on the failed leadership of Democrats like Senator Schumer, and identify and support fighters who will challenge feckless incumbents — to fight, not fold, in the face of fascism.
Abdul, Will, and Donavan join other Indivisible-endorsed candidates who have successfully won primaries and will be the Democratic nominee the general election this November, including:
- Brad Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier in the NY-10 and NY-13 Congressional races
- Analilia Mejia in the NJ-11 Congressional race
- Randy Villegas in the CA-22 Congressional race
- Dr. Jasmine Clark in the GA-13 Congressional race
Indivisible will continue to work with local groups to support additional candidates in competitive primaries across the country. In the coming months, Indivisible will direct its network of activists, volunteers, and resources to help these endorsed candidates win their primaries, scaling phone banks, text programs, and canvassing efforts to unprecedented levels for the 2026 cycle.
