Washington, D.C. — Today, Leah Greenberg, Indivisible’s Co-Executive Director, released the following statement on the district court’s decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status for Haitian immigrants:
“Today’s decision in the district courts will force thousands of Haitian immigrants to lose their work authorization and face the impossible choice of returning to Haiti amid ongoing violence and a humanitarian crisis or risking deportation. It is a cruel attack on working families who have built their lives here in the United States.
“The Trump administration has repeatedly targeted Haitian communities to advance its anti-immigrant agenda, and reports of increased ICE operations are already spreading fear among families who simply want to live and work in peace. Immigrants deserve dignity, due process, and the freedom to live without fear.
“Congress can still act. The Senate must pass S.4814 to restore protections for Haitian immigrants. And all of us must continue building strong, organized communities that stand with our immigrant neighbors and protect one another when authoritarianism comes to our neighborhoods.”
