  • BOTG Book Club-Redefining Freedom: Bridging Divides & Renewing the American Promise at 250

Join our favorite professor, Drew Bergerson for another rousing discussion! This book examines how citizens can heal deep political and social divides, combat civic apathy, and update America’s foundational ideals for the 21st century as the nation nears its 250th anniversary.

Nelson divides the modern concept of freedom into four practical pillars to help everyday people sustain the American republic:
    • Personal Freedom: Individual rights like freedom of movement, thought, marriage, and worship.
    • Shared Freedom: The principle that one person’s freedom cannot be greater than or negatively impact another’s, emphasizing community limits and mutual respect.
    • Lived Freedom: How liberty is experienced day-to-day in inclusive communities and civic spaces.
    • Protected Freedom: Safeguarding constitutional rights, democratic institutions, and the rule of law from erosion.

    This a local Indivisible event!

*A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
