  • Indivisible-Endorsed Candidates Brad Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier Win New York Congressional Races

    Nov 3, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, Indivisible-endorsed candidates Brad Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier won their respective races in New York, marking a major victory for working people and voters demanding a new generation of Democratic leadership willing to fight back. Indivisible endorsed Lander and Avila Chevalier following formal endorsements and national endorsement recommendations from Indivisible Brooklyn (NY-10) and Inwood Indivisible (NY-13), respectively.

Both Lander and Avila Chevalier defeated sitting Democratic incumbents backed by the party establishment in the primaries. Lander beat Rep. Dan Goldman, who had the support of Gov. Kathy Hochul and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Avila Chevalier beat Rep. Adriano Espaillat, a member of Congress since 2017 who was endorsed by Attorney General Letitia James. Lander and Avila Chevalier won by building grassroots movements around making government work for ordinary people, holding powerful interests accountable, and delivering for their communities. Both offered a clear alternative to politics as usual, challenging the Democratic establishment and rejecting a politics that puts wealthy donors and special interests ahead of constituents.

“Tonight, New Yorkers made clear that they want leaders who fight for them — not ones who make peace with a corrupt political system dominated by billionaires and corporate interests. Brad Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier built campaigns rooted in their communities and focused on making government work for ordinary people. Their victories are part of a larger movement demanding a new generation of leaders willing to challenge entrenched power and fight for the people they represent. The incoming Congress must meet that mandate with action: confronting corruption, taking on the Trump regime, and delivering for working families. We’re proud to have stood with Brad and Darializa, and we look forward to seeing them take that fight to Washington,” said Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible.

“Brad Lander doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk. From the beginning of his career, Brad’s calling has always been making the wonkiness of civics and the promise of democracy come alive to the communities he serves. He did that in 2016 by co-creating Get Organized BK, where hundreds of neighbors came together to learn how to take collective action. He did that during his 2025 mayoral run, where he cross-endorsed Mayor Zohran Mamdani and put coalition-building over politics to ensure working-class New Yorkers came first. He does this when he supports immigrants during their judicial hearings at 26 Federal Plaza, standing up to ICE. Brad shows up, and I cannot wait for him to bring his experience, his compassion, and his deep love of legislative wonkiness to Congress,” said Lisa Raymond-Tolan, Group Leader for Indivisible Brooklyn.

“Untold billions of words have been uttered about how to best combat the menace of Donald Trump, but the ones that have stuck with me belong to Brad Lander: we need fighters, not folders. Luckily for us, we have Brad Lander as not only an elected official, but a living example of what it looks like to be engaged in the unending work of building a better world. Brad is not seeking higher office for purposes of self-aggrandizement; he is going to Congress so he can continue fighting for all of us, tirelessly. We aim to be more like Brad in everything we do and keep on fighting,” said Saul Austerlitz, Group Leader for Brooklyn Resisters.

“Darializa Avila Chevalier’s victory has been about much more than one woman’s stunning determination and courage in taking on entrenched political power and corporate money. Darializa knows first-hand how the most vulnerable New Yorkers are struggling financially, victimized by our broken and cruel immigration and criminal justice systems, and failed by massive federal disinvestment in housing, health care, and public education while billions are spent on foreign wars and tax breaks for the wealthiest. She brings determination and courage to office, along with solid plans to break Congressional stasis and build a more secure and hopeful future for all Americans,” said Rebecca Saletan, Group Leader for Indivisible Harlem.

    About Indivisible’s 2026 Electoral Program

Brad Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier’s wins are part of the largest midterm election program in Indivisible’s history. Last November, after Senate Democrats surrendered and voted to end the 41-day government shutdown without securing any commitments to lower health care costs or protect working families, Indivisible announced its largest primary program in the movement’s history to turn the page on failed Democratic leadership and elect fighters, not folders.

Indivisible endorsements started with local groups, which endorsed candidates, recommended them for a national endorsement, and then spent months knocking doors, making calls, and sending texts to carry them through competitive primaries and the general election. Many candidates took on establishment-backed opponents and turned down corporate PAC, crypto, AI, and AIPAC money – and 11 Indivisible-endorsed candidates won their primary races across the country.

After a historic primary season, Indivisible Action launched its 2026 General Election Program on a call with thousands of grassroots leaders from across the country. The program had three goals: flip the Senate, win a strong Democratic majority in the House, and build the grassroots power to turn a Democratic victory into aggressive action on accountability, affordability, and corruption in 2027.

The program was built in response to the No Kings movement, which brought millions of Americans into the streets to oppose authoritarianism, corruption, and the concentration of power in the hands of Trump and his wealthy allies. On October 17, the No Kings: Vote Early national day of action held nearly 3,000 voter events nationwide. Across states reporting up-to-date data, early voting that day was up 43% in counties with No Kings: Vote Early events, compared to the last midterms. This built on the three largest protests in American history: No Kings 1, No Kings 2, and No Kings 3.

The midterm election results show that voters want leaders who will fight for them, not protect a corrupt status quo. Indivisible’s polling with Lake Research Partners found that 73% of battleground voters are more likely to support candidates who fight to lower costs and hold the powerful accountable. The incoming Congress must meet that mandate by confronting the Trump regime and its billionaire backers, tackling the affordability crisis, and challenging corruption and entrenched power. Tonight, voters made clear that they expect Democrats to fight for them and deliver results.
