May 1

12:00 - 5:00 PM CT

  • Community Hosted
  • May Day for the St. Croix Valley Community

On May 1, join St. Croix Valley Indivisible (SCVI) in Oak Park Heights for an act of community care while participating in May Day Strong — “an act of refusal to engage with the American economic engine” as usual. May Day is a national day of action. **No Work. No School. No Shop**. Workers Over Billionaires. is the American people refusing.

Authoritarianism and oligarchy profit by polarizing our population — distracting us from our eroding civil rights in a bid to extract more, then leaving a mess behind. SCVI rejects their mess by practicing collective care for our community. Together, on May Day, we’ll pick up trash in public spaces, showing up for our neighbors, local businesses, the environment, and each other.

We’ll meet in Fiesta Mexican Grill (near Kowalski’s) parking lot, carpool to the cleanup locations, and then gather at Fiesta Mexican Grill and Bar. While enjoying good food and conversation there, we’ll be supporting a local, immigrant-owned restaurant that was recently hit hard by ICE.

This is about practicing what it means to turn up locally, strengthen our connections, and build our collective-action muscle at home while making a visible difference. This is what democracy looks like.

    **Meet up time:** Noon

**Location:** Fiesta Mexican Grill parking lot, 5817 Neal Avenue North, Oak Park Heights, MN 55082 (just a few doors down from Kowalski’s)

**What to bring:** Weather-appropriate clothes and shoes, plus any friends and family who’d like to join

**_Show up. Pick up. Get stronger together._**
