**Organized by New River Valley Indivisible (NRVI)** – Sign up here to get the details and updates, and to help us plan effectively.
**Our message:** Opposing the Trump regime’s betrayals of our democracy, including its war on Iran, its ICE secret police terror machine, and its many other abuses. And opposing the actions of the regime’s promoters, such as right-wing VT Board of Visitors members’ current assault on Living Learning Communities and other practices to make sure everyone counts on campus.
If you share our values, join us at this protest.
– Bring a protest sign if you are able, but we have some extras. Or bring an American flag. Or, just bring yourself.
– Do you know someone else who might be interested? Please invite them to join you.
– **Nonviolent principles and actions.** NRVI requires protest participants to abide by nonviolent principles and actions, and for protest signs and other messages to be consistent with our commitment to nonviolence.
– This isn’t only a moral position, but also the strategy by which – together – we will win against this regime.
– No weapons or items that could be mistaken as weapons are allowed.
– We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation.
– **Messaging and audiences.** We will be most effective by focusing our opposition – signs, chants, other messages – on the regime and its promoters and enablers, not against ordinary Trump supporters, or on people who partly sympathize with them. We need to win over some of these folks to be successful against the regime.
– **More about us:** https://www.nrvindivisible.org. We are a local chapter of the national Indivisible movement (https://indivisible.org/). Our purpose: rebuild and protect inclusive democracy in America, where everyone counts. We are serious about “liberty and justice for all”!
**More that you need to know to participate:**
– **Where we stand** – as in, LITERALLY where we put our feet.
– Use the outer (street-side) half of the sidewalk, keeping a clear path for pedestrians in the other half of the sidewalk and keeping open spaces for other people at street crossings, getting off a bus, etc.
– As the number of protestors grows, stretch out across the sidewalks on adjacent blocks on that same side of the street.
– And of course, stay out of the street itself. 🙂
– We start gathering at 4:50pm. If you can’t come at 5:00, come when you can.
– **Need parking?** Park in public parking spaces. There is nearby public parking along Draper Road (parallel to Main Street and one block downhill from it) and some connecting streets. If you don’t find parking there, you should be able to park in Kent Square parking garage (payable by credit card), on Draper between Washington and Lee Streets. On-street parking is normally free starting at 5:00pm, and takes change or credit cards until then.
