  • Indivisible on Trump’s Firing of Kristi Noem

    Mar 5, 2026

Washington, D.C. — Today Andrew O’Neill, Indivisible’s National Advocacy Director, released the following statement in response to Trump’s firing of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem:

“Indivisibles have been calling for accountability for Kristi Noem and for her removal as the leading figure behind the rampant violence from this DHS – today, our pressure worked. While we join people across the country in taking some joy that Noem was removed, Donald Trump firing her doesn’t suddenly solve the crisis at DHS. Frankly, we believe she should face real accountability through prosecution and a congressional investigation. But our demands were never about one person. They’re about the policies and abuses that have defined this administration’s approach to the department. Swapping personnel without changing course is not accountability. It’s a spin tactic. What we actually need is structural change.

“And Trump cannot simply install a Homeland Security secretary via Truth Social. Any nominee must go through Senate confirmation, and Congress still needs to deliver real guardrails to protect our communities. Senators know what happens when they confirm a dangerous and cruel Secretary of Homeland Security, and they cannot be allowed to dodge public scrutiny.

“We also know, regardless of who leads DHS, Congress needs to act immediately to protect our communities from its most brutal agencies – ICE and Border Patrol. The current violence and terror machine within DHS cannot be allowed to continue. We must take this agency down to the studs.”
