May Day Strong is a national day of no work, no spending, no school.
Join Black Lives Matter East Atlanta Dekalb, Faith Advocacy for Black Lives, Georgia Equality, Georgia Voices United, Indivisible ATL, Indivisible Marching Buddies, Intown Women’s Resistance, North Decatur Action, This Doesn’t Define Me, Trans Joy, and others as we gather for a no-spend May Day with a **Potluck Picnic** supporting the May Day Workers over Billionaires National Day of Action.
At this event we’ll put into practice the messages and demands of May Day Strong:
– Practice flexing our collective economic muscle to protect November elections
– Spend time outdoors with lawn games and one of Atlanta’s best playgrounds
– Break bread with Atlanta neighbors (bring a small dish to share!)
– Hear from folks involved in laborers’ rights, including Michelle Sanchez—organizer and mother fighting for workers who built our state
– Get involved with Atlanta-area grassroots organizations
– Connect with organizers in your own neighborhood
– Meet up with buddies for other May Day events happening in Atlanta
This picnic is part of a series of May Day events in and around Atlanta. RSVP to stay up to date with this and other actions:
– Rally for Temco Teamsters at Home Depot HQ, 11:30am-1:30pm (https://www.mobilize.us/mayday/event/940925/)
– March and Rally at O4W Park, 5:30-7:30pm (https://www.mobilize.us/mayday/event/915308/)
**Why Does May Day Matter for Democracy?** According to Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin, when Trump tries to sabotage the results of the November election, No Kings is not going to be enough. To push back in that moment, we will need something more like what the folks in the Twin Cities showed us at a national scale.
May Day is a structure test for the strength of the pro-democracy movement and an opportunity to prepare to defend our elections. Let’s get ready.
**May Day Strong’s Demands for May 1st**
– Tax the rich so our families, not their fortunes, come first.
– No ICE. No war. No private army serving unchecked federal power.
– Expand democracy, not corporate power. Hands off our vote.
Together we will be flexing our collective muscle in a tremendous day of power—showing our unity through a day of marches, rallies, and actions.
Join us as together we celebrate May 1st through action and community.
*Please note: A core principle behind all our events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.*
