Washington, D.C. — Today, Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, released the following statement on the Tazewell Circuit Court ruling blocking Virginia’s voter-approved congressional redistricting measure:
“This circuit court ruling to block Virginia’s voter-approved redistricting measure is a blatant example of Republicans doing whatever it takes to disenfranchise voters and cling to power after losing at the ballot box. The Virginia Supreme Court has already twice allowed this referendum to move forward, yet GOP operatives continue to court-shop for a favorable ruling from an activist judge, because they know they can’t win on the merits or with voters.
“We stand in solidarity with the organizers and advocates across Virginia doing the hard work to secure a fair map and deliver for voters. Virginians know exactly what this is: an attempt to override the will of the people after the fact. We’re confident this decision won’t stand and that voters, not desperate Republican attempts at interference, will have the final say.”
