    CA-14 candidate Aisha Wahab

Dr. Aisha Wahab’s story is one of resilience, determination, and service. After losing both of her parents at a young age, she spent years in foster care before being adopted. Her family’s struggles during the Great Recession led her to become an advocate for renters, workers, and families, turning personal challenges into a lifelong commitment to fighting for others.

While working full-time, Aisha earned a B.A. in Political Science, an MBA, and a Doctorate in Social Work from USC. She built a successful career in technology and dedicated herself to public service, serving as Chair of the Alameda County Human Relations Commission and on the boards of nonprofits, including Tri-City Volunteers and the Afghan Coalition. Her leadership earned her recognition as one of the Bay Area’s Most Influential Women in Business and multiple Legislator of the Year awards.

In 2018, Aisha made history as the first Afghan American woman elected to public office in the United States, serving on the Hayward City Council and later as Mayor Pro Tempore. Four years later, she became the first Afghan American elected to the California State Legislature, where she now serves as Assistant Majority Leader.

Aisha is running for Congress to make the American Dream more attainable for working people. She is fighting to lower the cost of housing, healthcare, childcare, groceries, and prescription drugs. She is working to ensure the government works for the people, not powerful special interests and the wealthy. She believes everyone deserves the opportunity to build a good life, own a home, raise a family, and retire with dignity. She is the fighter we need to make a difference.
