Art and activism are two great callings—two expressions of the human spirit—that go great together. Bringing them together is part of the IPA+ DNA. Join us on as we come together for a **casual, fun afternoon of making art** while making connections with each other. _No artistic ability needed!_
Art and activism serve distinct roles: Art aims to move us in body and soul, while activism works to create change in the world. But before people can take action in the world, they must be personally and emotionally moved to do so. When done with the right mindset—when done in community—art _is_ activism.
Here are the activities that we have planned for Saturday.
– Explore your powerful voice—all voices welcome (off-key ones especially)—with the Palo Alto Singing Resistance group in a session where you’ll learn resistance movement songs and voice-strengthening exercises
– Paint pro-democracy messages on rocks, as part of our [Democracy Rocks](https://indivisiblepaloaltoplus.org/democracy-rocks) initiative.
– Create a [Get It Out!](https://www.getitoutart.org) collage to represent your feelings about the current moment in our country.
– Build CCTV heads—fun, artful headgear to wear at the “No ALPR” (Automatic License Plate Reader) rally scheduled to take place in Palo Alto on August 20, as part of a national week of anti-ALPR activism (see below)
– Fold informational zines to hand out during the [National Week of Activism Against ALPRs](https://noalprs.com) (August 16–22)
– Crochet alongside others while learning about the Red Hat Resistance, a form of activism that traces its roots to Norwegians who knitted red-knit caps to signal their resistance to Nazi rule during World War II
– Craft earrings that feature pro-democracy messaging—a perfect gift for the first-time (or many-time) voter in your life
– Hang out with fellow activists!
Some projects have limited availability. Arrive early to get your space!
