  • Banned Book Club – The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine

Join us each month for a new book from our ever growing banned or challenged book list. Where we choose a new title each month and combine reading out loud in a group setting, reading alone, and discussing how the books might correspond to the world around us.

Please make sure to add any suggestions to the Google spreadsheet shared in the Zoom chat before the third week of the month to have a chance at it being selected for the next month. The meetings are 90 minutes long and broke down into 3 parts. The first half hour is spent discussing the section that was designed or our anticipations on what the book might be like. The middle section we read out loud, and the last half hour is spent going over what we read and assigning the next section.

So far we have read the following titles and discussed how they correlate with our present day.
The Diary of a Yong Girl – Anne Frank
    1984 – George Orwell
    Animal Farm – George Orwell
    Fahrenheit 451 – Ray Bradbury
    Looking Backward – Edward Bellamy

All are welcome and even if you haven’t picked up the book feel free to join us for the discussion and reading.
