  • Defend Democracy Book Club Summer Series with West Mi Indivisible

Join us this summer for three evenings of books, snacks, community and change-making conversation. Whether you’ve read the book or not, all are welcome! Choose one event or all three. Snacks provided. Events are free.
July 2 – 6:30-8pm Why Fascists Fear Teachers by Randi Weingarten. We know that attacks on education are a hallmark of fascism. But we also have the power to strengthen our public schools. The author reminds readers of the important role that teachers play in protecting democracy.
July 30 – 6:30- 8pm Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America by Heather Cox Richardson. Historian Cox Richardson explores U.S. History from its foundation to our current events in order to explain the authoritarian-streak in this political movement.
August 27 – 6:30-8pm Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community. Robert D. Putnam looks at Americans’ changing social behavior. This apparent weakening of social bonds creates a crisis for our civic life.

*A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
