Fighting Fascism with Facts: Demonstration & Voter Engagement
About:
Fascism is on the rise in United States, and the people of Polk county are working together to make sure it does not take root! For many, the basic lessons taught in a high school civics class have become a distant memory. Inspired by other demonstrators from the west coast and Washington D.C., Indivisible on The Ridge created some large scale visual aids to help remind the community about what the signs of fascism look like when a government moves away from democracy and towards authoritarian overreach. Through education and access to resources, our goal is to empower the residents of Lake Wales to make informed decisions when they cast their vote in the upcoming elections!
What to Expect:
The organizing group will bring 10 – extra large educational signs and American flags designed to be seen from passing motorist and pedestrians. This is NOT a protest, so you do not need to bring your own sign. The organizing group will supply the signs and flags for everyone that attends! In addition to the demonstration, the group will provide information about upcoming elections; how to register to vote, your polling place, candidates, etc.
What to Bring:
– Water
– Sun Protection (Hat, Sunscreen, etc.)
– A folding chair if you have one
– Non-Perishable Food (all food donated will be distributed to those in need in the Lake Wale area)
Where to Park:
The address provided in the event info will take you to a large parking lot. Please park at the back of the lot near highway 60. Please do not park close to any businesses.
