Community Freedom Sing & Choir Kickoff

Music has always been part of the struggle for justice.

During the Civil Rights Movement, freedom songs inspired courage, strengthened communities, and reminded people they were not alone. The Forsyth Freedom Singers seek to continue that tradition by bringing people together through songs of hope, democracy, justice, and beloved community.

Whether you’ve sung in a church choir, school chorus, community ensemble—or simply love to sing—you are welcome.

This first gathering is a Freedom Sing, not an audition.

We’ll learn several classic freedom songs from the Civil Rights Movement alongside contemporary community songs, including selections from the Minnesota Resistance Songbook. Together, we’ll begin building a repertoire that reflects both our shared history and our community’s voice.

The choir will also help select additional songs for future gatherings, making this a choir shaped by everyone who participates.

As we move toward the 2026 elections and beyond, we hope to share music at community events, worship gatherings, voter engagement activities, and other opportunities that celebrate hope, unity, and civic participation.

    Everyone belongs.
    Bring your voice.

    No musical experience required.
