What is a Pop-Up Block Party for Democracy?
We’re bringing art supplies, good company, and a little civic spirit to parks, coffee houses, libraries, and other public gathering places around town. Drop in for a few minutes or stay the whole time.
Keep it as simple or as hands-on as you like. You can sit down and make something with us, grab a kit to work on at home, or take a finished piece to keep, give to a friend, or leave somewhere in your neighborhood for someone else to find. If you’d rather just hang out and chat, that’s great too. No art skills needed.
Activities change from pop-up to pop-up. Here are some you might find:
Flock to the Polls: Crafty birds carrying a message and a QR code that helps people get ready to vote.
Rock-ing the Vote: Painted rocks with messages about voting and democracy, made for hiding around town.
Make & Take Yard Signs: Signs like our Ready, Set VOTE! design, with a QR code neighbors can scan to check ID rules, find their polling place, and more.
Dogs for Democracy: A bandana or sandwich board sign for your dog, with your own message. Great for marches, rallies, or a walk around the block.
Next 2sday Whistles: Decorative ICE whistles you can wear like everyday jewelry, so one’s always on hand. They’re also great noisemakers at rallies.
The People’s Assembly: Make a collage about what democracy means to you. It joins a larger community art piece we’ll display in the future.
Plus other hands-on projects, depending on the day.
Defending our democracy is hard work, especially right now. Making something together is one way to find a spark of hope, and have some fun along the way. Come join us!
