Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.
On July 17 – 19, to commemorate Congressman John Lewis’s passing, people are taking action across the country to defend our democracy and carry forward his legacy of Good Trouble.
Our vehicles will drive *separately but *following the same route* throughout Brockton. Our signs will catch the eyes of pedestrians and motorists alike, waking them up to the power of their votes. Think of this votercade as a mobile stand-out! We will decorate our vehicles with signs that carry the spirit and message that voting is the foundation of our power. We will show that activism *isn’t just for *other* people.
Messages include No Jim Crow 2.0, VOTE: the country depends on YOU, Hands Off Our Votes, Your Vote is Your Power, GoodTroubleLivesOn.org, VOTE in the September Primary. Signs can be made on posterboard held on with masking tape, blank magnetic signs, or temporary car/window paint. Other good decorations would be helium balloons, and window-mounted American flags.
We will do a separate sign-making event on Monday 7/13 evening, 6:30 – 8 PM. Venue TBA. We hope to see everyone at BOTH events!
IMPORTANT:
1. This is NOT a parade. We will mostly be following a route, but cars will NOT stay together, will NOT slow traffic, and will NOT run red lights or stop signs. We will follow all traffic laws. By spreading out a bit, those who see us will have more time to think about our messages!
2. Each vehicle must include a passenger to navigate using the route map we will provide.
3. Participants will be required to pledge to follow all traffic laws and regulations, to drive responsibly and courteously, and to assume individual responsibility for any damage or harm they might cause.
WE WILL EMAIL RULES AND INFORMATION IN THE WEEK BEFORE THE EVENT.
This is more than a protest; it begins a moral reckoning: it continues the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom.*
