Join our IND Cobb member liaisons who regularly attend the BOC meetings because all politics is local, and this has never been more true. Here’s why you should start plugging in to local politics.
County commissioners make real decisions that affect your daily life – like taxes, law enforcement budgets, zoning, public health, and infrastructure. Yet most people never show up. Here’s why you should:
🔎 Accountability
When you’re in the room, it is harder for officials to make shady or unpopular decisions.
🗣️ Your Voice Matters
At the local level, one person speaking up can actually shift policy. Commissioners notice when people show up – especially when they speak. But you don’t have to speak. Your presence alone speaks volumes and our Democratic majority of Commissioners appreciate you making the effort to attend.
💰 They Control Your Tax Dollars
Millions in public funds are decided here. Want better services or to stop wasteful spending? This is where to start.
🔥 They Count on You Staying Home
Most meetings are empty. Your presence alone disrupts that status quo and reminds them who they work for.
🏛️ Local is Where Big Change Begins
Many bad (or good) policies start at the county level – like surveillance, book bans, or housing rules. Spot them early, and fight back locally.
August meetings:
Tues Aug 12, 9a – BOC Regular Meeting
Tues Aug 26, 7p – BOC Regular Meeting
Bottom Line:
If you don’t show up – they assume you don’t care.
Be there. Speak up. Keep them honest. Start with a Regular Meeting until you feel comfortable going to more.
