Work with others to stand up for democracy and resist fascism. Our times call for concerted, communal, and local action. Come to our monthly meeting to connect and get involved!
Indivisible is a national movement of thousands of group leaders and more than a million members taking regular, iterative, and increasingly complex actions to resist the GOPs agenda, elect local champions, and fight for progressive policies.
Lancaster Together is one of several local chapters. Each chapter has its own flavor and we all work together on bigger projects. You can join any or all of them — whatever works best for you. Our chapter meeting is in East Hempfield and many members live in Lancaster City, Lancaster Township, and parts south and west, although we welcome anyone from any part of the county.
We organize protests and rallies, hold our elected officials to account, speak up and support those who can’t, and most of all, work together with other Indivisible chapters and mission-aligned local and national partners to increase our impact. All of our activity is meant to spread awareness and make change happen.
Most of our day-to-day work takes place OUTSIDE of our monthly meeting. You can start a new project right away, or join an existing effort. But the meeting is the best way to meet everyone and see what your role can be. We use it to update, connect, onboard, discuss, and decide. We also promise it will last only ONE hour.
##Here are five things to know about our grassroots organization:
– **We Are Indivisible** We are stronger in unity. We emphasize partnerships and collaboration to stand in solidarity with those most affected by right-wing policies, while also seeking to build awareness about and change those policies.
– **Strong Leaders, Strong Groups, Strong Movement** Indivisible is decentralized, fostering leadership at the local level. Our volunteers can lead and take independent action, while coordinating with national campaigns for maximum impact.
– **Inside/Outside Strategy** We engage with existing political structures while simultaneously applying pressure from the outside. This dual approach involves working within systems like Congress while mobilizing grassroots pressure on elected officials to advance progressive goals.
– **A Virtuous Cycle of Advocacy and Elections** We believe in electing progressive candidates and progressive policies. We hold our elected officials to account and work to elect progressive candidates who can resist tyranny and promote democracy.
– **A Real Democracy** The organization is driven by a vision of a democracy that serves everyone. We aim to defeat right-wing political agendas and build an inclusive democracy that reflects the needs and values of all people.
– **Nonviolence** A core principle behind all Indivisible activity is a commitment to nonviolence.
*If these principles align with your values, please join us!*
