  • Indivisible San Mateo and Millbrae Indivisible: Protest at SFO International

Please join Indivisible San Mateo and Millbrae Indivisible on Wednesday, September 16th at 2:30 pm at San Francisco International Airport to peacefully protest a hidden detention center run there by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Protesters will meet on the sidewalk in front of the departing flights wing at the International Terminal.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle (9/2/26), dozens of detainees have been arrested and held here for more than a week without a bed, medical care, a change of clothes, or due process. Seventy-two hours is the legal limit for ICE to detain someone in an appropriate facility.

Federal immigration enforcement has ramped up to meet the Trump administration’s stated goal of deporting 1 million people each year. According to the Chronicle, ICE has arrested thousands in San Francisco since the beginning of Trump’s second term. While SFO is owned by the city and county of San Francisco, airport officials said they have no authority to prohibit ICE’s use of the facility.

Seeing men, women, and children suddenly handcuffed and swept away has caused fear and panic among crowds of travelers who have no idea what is happening. Protesters on September 16th will wear artificial handcuffs as a shocking reminder of cruel and illegal treatment by federal officers.

*A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
