_In May, the U.S. added just 172,000 jobs, and the unemployment rate stayed stuck at 4.3%, with 7.3 million people out of work. Only about 59.2% of the population is working, and the labor force participation rate is a weak 61.8%. Average hourly pay is 37.53 dollars, up 3.4% over the past year — but after inflation, real wages are actually down about 0.8%._

At the same time, the Iran war is pushing prices higher, especially at the gas pump, while core inflation stays above the Fed’s 2% target. Under Trump, total employment is still down millions of jobs across his two terms, even as families are squeezed by higher prices and rising insecurity.

We’ll unpack what the May jobs report really shows, how Trump’s tariffs, mass deportations, and the Iran war are driving this economic chaos, and what it means for people here in Illinois and across the country. Join us on Zoom to dig into the numbers, cut through the spin, and talk about what we can do together.

_Come join us, catch up on this year’s US & IL economic news and share your thoughts_
