  • Knox Co. Indivisible Constitutional Observer Training

    ## What is a Constitutional Observer?

A Constitutional Observer is a trained community member who calmly observes and documents law enforcement activity to help ensure constitutional rights are respected and to support accountability.

    Constitutional Observers:

    – Witness and document interactions involving law enforcement and immigration authorities
    – Focus on accuracy, neutrality, and safety
    – Never interfere with, obstruct, or escalate a situation

Their role is to observe, document, and report — nothing more, nothing less.

    ## What will the training cover?

Participants in this training will learn:

    – The role and responsibilities of a Constitutional Observer
    – How to accurately observe and document law enforcement and immigration activity
    – Key constitutional rights relevant to observation and documentation
    – How to use the S.A.L.U.T.E. framework for clear, consistent reporting
    – Best practices for personal safety and non-interference

The training emphasizes calm presence, careful documentation, and respect for boundaries at all times.

    ## Who should attend?

These trainings are designed for community members who:

    – Want to support accountability and civil liberties
    – Are interested in non-confrontational, observer-based roles
    – Care deeply about immigrant communities and constitutional protections

No prior legal or observer experience is required. While we don’t expect everyone to join a Rapid Response team after this training, we welcome your participation and hope you’ll embrace this option.

_A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events._
