The Declaration of Independence was the first No Kings petition. 250 years later, it is no less vital that We the People continue to loudly proclaim that we will neither accept or tolerate kings. NO Kings is as relevant now as it was then.
From the date of the Declaration until victory in the Revolutionary War brought freedom from King George III, seven years passed. It was a long, slow, painful campaign that succeeded due to the persistence, commitment, strength and resilience of those who believed in Democracy and the right of the people to choose their leaders. They did not yield and they did not give up. Neither will we.
Our fight today promises to be long and hard. We’ll not secure a quick victory, or a quick recovery. But we are winning. Yes, we are winning. Every protest, every story about a reprehensible decision or policy, every favorable judicial decision, every successful down-ballot election of a legislator, city alder, or other state or local official, is one more straw on the back of this authoritarian and fascist regime. Enough straws, and we break its back. Enough honks and beeps on the streets and highways of America and the noise will overwhelm the regime.
Indivisible Monona will again be on the corner of Monona Drive and Nichols Road Saturday, July 25. August 8, and August 22, from 10 to 11 a.m.
