In this important Election year, we really want to digest what Mr. Katz shared during our May 13 Zoom about how a candidate he advised, Zohran Mamdani, Mayor of NYC, went from 0% to winning the race.
Morris Katz, Chief Strategist for Zohran Mamdani’s campaign, is one of the most closely watched political organizers of his generation. Katz built a movement that brought a disparate coalition behind an unlikely, grassroots candidate — no major party endorsement, no conventional playbook. He is now consulting on campaigns worldwide. He will share his thoughts on how the tactics from the Mamdani campaign could be applied at our local level.
At this in-person meeting June 30, we will replay Mr. Katz’s remarks from May 13, stopping after each section for small group discussion to see what might apply to our Indivisible group’s efforts in 2026 and beyond.
Topics include:
– Surprising info on who the most powerful volunteers turn out to be
– Transforming what our politics IS to what it OUGHT TO BE
– Meeting people where they are. Don’t right anyone off. Don’t leave anyone behind. This experiment only works if we are all bought in.
– Using a “surround sound system” to get your message out
– Restoring trust in government’s ability to make a difference in people’s lives.
– Relational organizing
– Which issues to focus and how to talk about them
– How young people are particularly hurt by affordability crisis; how to speak to that
