Saturday is No Kings Day
The wannabe-king is intent on sabotaging our midterms. This weekend, we turn out by the millions to nonviolently defend our elections, our democracy, and our rights. First in the streets, and then at the polls. Join us.
We the people have the power. We decide who represents us. We decide what comes next.
For more than a year, millions of people have come together to reject the idea that power belongs to kings, billionaires, or politicians who believe they are above the people and the law.
Now, we are taking the next step, turning people power into voter power. Unlike previous No Kings actions, No Kings: Vote Early, is not purely a protest. Instead, on October 17th, it’s a day of nonpartisan voter participation: we are bringing our community together to make a plan to vote early and ensure every eligible voter understands their options for how to vote and has the opportunity to make their voice heard. We must reject recent and prospective threats to the free and fair process of our elections and their results.
For Riverhead — the seat of Suffolk County — that means a march through town, a rally on the steps of the Suffolk County Supreme Court with special guest speakers (TBA – stay tuned!), and a Celebration of Democracy Community Resource Fair where you can get your voting questions answered, sign up for upcoming election protection training, find real ways to plug in locally, and spend the afternoon together with live music along the way. This election will shape what comes next for all of us — so come get your plan to vote early, bring a neighbor, and let’s head into November ready for whatever it brings. No thrones, no crowns, no kings.
**Meet us at the Suffolk County Supreme Court on Griffing Avenue at 2PM, march through town together, and head back for the rally and the fair. Park at the train station, Town Hall, or any nearby public lot.**
During the morning we are encouraging and supporting hyperlocal vote early visibility actions in East End communities. If you want to organize an event or are part of a service or activist group that wishes to participate in the Community Resource Fair, please write to: riverheadnokings@gmail.com
Brought to you by: East End Visibility Brigade, Indivisible Long Island, Indivisible North Fork, League of Women Voters, PEER/NYPAN: Progressive East End Reformers, Riverhead No Kings, together with activists and neighbors across the East End.
*No Kings: Vote Early events are nonpartisan and are designed to increase participation from all eligible voters.*
*A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.*
