Purpose of organizing a Lancaster SR core:
1) teaching simple, singable songs to as many folks as we can, using the Singing Resistance Minneapolis songbook
2) gathering as many potential song-leaders as possible to be present for an event so that, as actions come up, we’ll have a group of “on call” leaders who can help provide musical support/presence
3) make clear the role of music and group singing as a means of resistance, peacemaking, community care, and community identity.
4) JOY! LOVE! COMMUNITY! PEACE! through Singing Resistance
**This event is sponsored by Singing Resistance Lancaster, hosted at Grandview Church Lancaster, and endorsed by Indivisible. This is a non-partisan, pro-democracy gathering, based on the Core Principles established by the Singing Resistance Movement:**
• We are building a large movement of singers that is radically welcoming
• In the context of rising authoritarianism, we believe we need a mass civil resistance movement
• We take regular action, grounded in solidarity and noncooperation
• We sing not only for the world that we want to create, but to create that world right here and now
• We sing songs that are simple, taught by ear, are relevant to these times
• We seek to end all oppressive systems
**All Indivisible and Singing Resistance actions are peaceful and nonviolent. Here is a link to a fuller statement: https://indivisible.org/about/our-commitment-to-nonviolence/**
A Message of Welcome from the Host: “Grandview Church is proud to host this event as it so beautifully aligns with our core belief to love God and neighbor. Music plays a vital role in our community and tradition and we look forward to singing with all who fill the room on March 8.”
