Celebrate Flag Day @ United We Stand pop up protest June 14
SKI Planning Group very busy past couple weeks to ready for Sunday’s pop up protest – United We Stand – in observance of Flag Day. Organizing group received its June 14 itinerary and Volunteer Action Checklist via e-mail on June 5. If you didn’t get it, please e-mail ritagiese@yahoo.com.
SKI volunteers will lead the crowd from noon to 2 p.m. downtown on sidewalks near City Hall. SKI organizers arriving at 10 a.m. to begin set up and tear down should be finished by 2:30 p.m.
Crowd in for a treat with a march featuring music-chanting-drumming thru the business district, while Spinal Nap musicians entertain those who don’t march but start sign waving after national anthem and opening remarks. SKI Resistance Singers will join Spinal Nap for some patriotic songs, with Rita and Shari chanting between music sets.
SKI will collect donations for South Kitsap Helpline and have buttons for sale to benefit Kitsap Immigration Assistance Center.
Note: A sunny day (75-80 degrees) is forecast for Flag Day. Be prepared to beat the heat, with hats, water, sunscreen, shade, cool clothing. Please watch the crowd for signs of heat illness; alert our first aid and safety team if you see someone who needs help.
