Pro Tips on Composition and Stabilization
Whether you are documenting ICE/whistle actions in your neighborhood, or filming rallies, this hands-on camera workshop will teach techniques and tips to make more stable and effective videos and help you stay SAFE doing it. Basic rules of framing, and practice in movement & breathing techniques to avoid “shaky cam”.
Presented by the Video Resource Team at West Seattle Indivisible (see our videos on our site: www.westseattleindivisible.com/videos).
Topics include:
How to quickly assess a situation, and how to film it depending on Target Audience, Message, Target media, and your Call-to-action. Help you have clarity about what to film, why, and who it is for so you can know how to film.
Your Body IS the tripod. Camera/Handheld stabilization exercises. This is the core of the workshop: learning and practicing physical techniques that will vastly improve your footage – making videos that are calm, stable, and show what needs to be shown like a PRO.
Safety FIRST! Where to film from, and use of different lenses to STAY SAFE. We recommend working in teams or with a buddy – someone to watch the Big PICTURE while the other person is focused on the screen. We will talk about creating teams “on the fly” at an action.
Scenarios and Role-Playing. A significant portion of the workshop will involve scenarios that will help you “slow down” Events that are happening quickly and help you prepare for the real thing. Give you practice in maintaining a very steady shot while moving into position, and being aware of the whole picture, and how you “fit”.
Pre-Requisite: we prefer you have taken the Constitutional Observer Training before attending. Available via Zoom every Tuesday in June HERE, and in-person with WSI June 27 HERE If unable please notify when you sign up, and get approval.
Aimed at a general audience, NO experience needed, but even pros will learn some tips (and share some) for working in this current Free Speech -endangered climate.
