Registering voters and signing people up for Vote by Mail is one of the most effective ways to strengthen democracy and increase participation in our elections, but success requires more than simply setting up a table and hoping people stop by.
Join Indivisible Illinois for an interactive training designed for both new and experienced advocates who want to improve their voter registration and Vote by Mail outreach efforts. This session will cover proven strategies for collecting more registrations, planning high-impact events, engaging voters effectively, and building a follow-up process that helps ensure the people you register actually cast their ballots.
Participants will learn:
How to identify the best locations and events for voter registration and Vote by Mail outreach
Techniques for increasing the number of forms collected at every event
Best practices for volunteer recruitment and event planning
Common mistakes that reduce effectiveness and how to avoid them
Follow-up strategies that turn registrations into actual votes
Ways to track, measure, and improve your voter engagement efforts over time
Whether you’re organizing on a college campus, at a community festival, in a suburban neighborhood, or at a local farmers market, the lessons in this training can dramatically increase your impact. The difference between collecting 5 forms and 10 forms at an event often comes down to preparation, strategy, and execution.
The training will be led by Patrick Watson, a longtime voting rights advocate with 20 years of experience managing large-scale volunteer-led and paid voter registration and Vote by Mail programs across multiple states. Patrick has organized successful voter engagement efforts in urban centers, suburban communities, rural areas, and college campuses, helping thousands of voters register and participate in elections.
If you are ready to sharpen your skills, expand your reach, and help build a stronger electorate, this training is for you.
