After the Declaration was signed on July 4, 1776, copies were sent across the land to be read in town squares. This July 4, 2026 we will mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration by having a public reading at the Rotary Pavilion in Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton Michigan. Beginning at noon, community members will be invited to read brief passages from the Declaration. Everyone present will be given an individual copy of the Constitution and the Declaration. These copies have a place to sign your name, vowing to support the Constitution. A special commemorative stamp will then be placed on the copy. This event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country.
